PROLOGUE

 

MEDCOAST Institute is one of the earliest efforts and the longest running for international training on Integrated Coastal Management (ICM).  Started in 1994 through a project support won from the Mediterranean Programs of EU (1993-95) MEDCOAST Institute has been run ten times so far, in the years of (1994, 95, 96, 98, 99, 2002, 04, 10, 12 and 14).  A total of 165 alumni from 27 countries, some of them are now national and international ICM leaders, participated at these ten events. The new generation of MEDCOAST Institutes having modified formats, new goals and targets starts with the 11th event.  The new generation MEDCOAST Institutes will be organised annually, be shorter in duration and will focus in depth every year at a different popular subject important for ICM.

 

ORGANISATION & PROGRAM
 

This new generation MEDCOAST Institute will comprise two consequent events. The Institute will begin with a one-day long (20 Sept) Launching Event, which will be jointly organised by DG MARE (European Commission). The Launching Event will share the EU experience on Integrated Maritime Policy and Marine Spatial Planning. The program will include presentations by prominent speakers on selected subjects and will be followed by Q&A. The Launching Event will kick-start the seven-day long (20-27 Sept) Training Workshop that will be organised by MEDCOAST Foundation.  The workshop will include lectures by faculty members, presentations by participants, a two-day long simulation game on MSP, group discussions/roundtables and a one-day long study field trip.

INSTITUTE DIRECTOR & FACULTY
                                                                                       

Similar to the past ten Institutes, MEDCOAST Institute 2016 will be organised under the leadership of Prof.Dr. Erdal Özhan, the Founder and President of MEDCOAST Foundation. The Institute will be run by well-known international faculty drawn from the institutions collaborating with MEDCOAST, EU and international institutions.

 

LANGUAGE
 

The language of instruction of MEDCOAST Institute 2016 is English. All participants must have good command of this language.

 

PARTICIPANTS
 

The highest priority target group for the participation at MEDCOAST Institute 2016 are the professionals holding mid-managerial positions in their central or regional governments and being responsible for planning and execution of programs or projects on coastal and marine issues. Participants may also be accepted from other groups including employees of coastal municipalities, non-governmental environmental organisations, and international organisations, unions of coastal sectors, private sector, universities and research centres. The maximum number of participants to be accepted is twenty five. The participants are required to have a basic university degree (Bachelor of Science, Engineering, Art or Law) in a relevant field, and work experience of at least 5 years.

 

FEES, SPONSORSHIP & ACCOMMODATION
 

The fee for participation at MEDCOAST Institute 2016 is 950 Euro. The fee covers all costs of the training workshop including the course materials, full board accommodation at a 4-star hotel for nine nights (except drinks and personal expenses), and one day-long study field trip by boat, special events and airport transfers.  Accommodation of participants will be in double occupancy rooms. Single use can be arranged for participants at an additional fee of 150 Euro. Participants should bring funds for their personal expenses. Medical insurance is not included in the workshop fee.  The international travel should be organised to and from Dalaman International Airport, which is 25 km away from Dalyan.


Participants are urged to search for sponsorship from their ends (e.g. their institutions and governments, national and international donor organisations). A number of full (travel and workshop fee) and partial (waiver of a part of or complete workshop fee) sponsorship are expected to be available at a competitive basis only for participants from developing countries. Only the participants selected from the highest priority target group described above will be eligible for full sponsorship.

 

APPLICATIONS


The last date for submitting an application is 15 August 2016.  Selected participants will be notified by 22 August 2016.
